Poll: Will you watch the Olympics?

Billions of people are set to tune in at some stage over the next 16 days.

THE 2016 RIO Olympics will kick off this weekend, with the opening ceremony to be held late on Friday night.

The ceremony will kick off at 12.00am Irish time (8.00pm local time) and run until about 4am.

This year’s games have been dogged with controversy, with Brazil undergoing a number of social and political crises over the past number of months.

As well as this, much of the Russian Olympic team have been banned over a doping scandal, and many golfers have pulled out over health concerns around the spread of the Zika virus.

However, Ireland will still have 77 competitors competing in 14 sports. The Olympics are generally watched around the world, with billions due to tune in at some stage.

So, today we’re asking: Will you watch the Olympics?

Poll Results:

Yes, but only a small number of events (6651)
Yes, as much as possible (5182)
No, not at all (4036)
Yes, but only the Irish events (1138)
